A comprehensive 12 day itinerary focusing on Aboriginal Art in the
Kimberley Region.
Highlights:
Aboriginal Art & Culture, magnificent scenery through the Kimberley,
waterfalls and remote areas.

A minimum of 5 passengers per vehicle
Itinerary:
This itinerary is designed for small group travel. For people who
have an interest or would like to learn more about Aboriginal Art
and Culture. It is also for the adventurous and reasonably fit as
you will be camping and venturing into remote areas such as Mitchell
Plateau deep in the Kimberley Region. In some areas accommodation
can be arranged on request and at additional cost. This itinerary
operates from May to November only due to the road closures over
the wet season.
Day
1 (LD)
Depart
Darwin, travel south to Katherine where we will meet Bill Harney
a tradional elder of the Wardaman People, who is also a very
well known local character. "Born Under The Paperbark Tree"
is a book written about Bill's life. Continue to Wardaman Country
and Bill's permenant and truly unique bush camp. The giant sized
Boab tree is a main feature! Dinner tonight will be cooked
on the BBQ or open fire.
Overnight: Bill Harney's Camp.

Day
2(BLD)
After breakfast we travel by 4-wheel drive exploring some of the
richest occupation, art and rock engraving sites to be found
anywhere in the region. Our destination is the site of "The Lightening
brothers". These figures are of major importance to the Wardaman
peoples and represent a continuation of their traditional culture.
The importance of these paintings will be interpreted to you by
your, traditional Wardaman guide. Depart the land of the Lightening
Brothers and head West along the Victoria Highway to Victoria
River where we set up camp for the night. Shower and bathroom
facilities are available.
Dinner tonight will be cooked on the BBQ or open fire.
Overnight: Keep River National Park.

Day
3(BLD)
Depart camp this morning for Kununurra ( free time here whilst
we re stock on fresh produce as we are unable to bring fresh fruit
& vegetables from the Northern Territory into Western Australia
). Continue to Emma Gorge. This afternoon is at leisure,
you may wish to relax pool side at Emma Gorge or walk / hike in
to the pristine pool that is 'Emma Gorge' Depart Emma Gorge
for camp on the banks of the Pentecost River.
Dinner tonight will be served in camp.
Overnight: Camping EL Questro.

4 (BLD)
5.00 a.m. - Light breakfast, picnic hamper lunch will also
be provided, along with juice and healthy snacks.
6.00 a.m. - We take a guided walk through the Cockburn Range,
a good up hill climb will allow you to experience views, vistas
and stark plateaus. Today we visit three, little known, Bradshaw
Art sites, some of the best! ( You can return by scenic helicopter
flight, cost additional ).
Dinner tonight will be served in camp.
Overnight: Camping EL Questro.

5 (BLD)
After breakfast travel to Zebedee Springs, small thermal
pools situated in a pocket of lush and tropical Livistonia
and Pandanus Palms will be sure to relax you after yesterday!
Depart Zebedee Springs lunch will be served back at camp. This afternoon
join the Chamberlain River Cruise, cruise through this timeless
land, your local guide will point out Wandjina Aboriginal rock
art, bird and wildlife.
Dinner tonight will be cooked on the BBQ or over an open fire.
Overnight: Camping EL Questro.

6 (BLD)
Depart EL Questro this morning for Mt Elizabeth Station.
Upon arrival we collect our local guide for an afternoon of viewing
rock art with Aboriginal Guides. This evening return to the homestead
and enjoy a home cooked meal and a chat to you hosts Pat and
Peter Lacy. With more than 100 Bradshaw artsites, and
beautiful billabongs, we will be sure to show you the best!
Dinner tonight will be served at the homestead.
Overnight: Camp Mt Elizabeth.

7 (BLD)
Continue exploring this vast and rich area with local guides, if
season permits you will be able to experience some stockwork . Mid
afternoon we depart for Drysdale Station and Miners Pool
for overnight.
Dinner tonight will be cooked on the BBQ or over an open fire.

8 (BLD)
Depart Miners Pool for the Mitchell Plateau ( approximately
4.5 - 5 hours drive ), Travel the Gibb River / Kalumbaru Road
to the turn off. Traverse the Port Warrender Road to the Mitchell
Plateau. The entire area is forested by endemic Livistonia
Palms and spectacular vistas off the edge of this ancient land
formation. Cross the King Edward River, a beautiful river crossing
surrounded by Pandanus and Weeping Melaluca. Time to
re fresh and have lunch, before viewing some spiritual Wandjina
and Bradshaw Artsites and Living Shelters. Bush Tucker in the
area would have been abundant for centuries.
Dinner tonight will be cooked on the BBQ or over an open fire.
Overnight: Mitchell Plateau.

9 (BLD)
After a light breakfast we chopper you into the Mitchell Falls,
a twelve minute scenic heilflight is the only way to arrive!
Full commentary and headphones for communication are provided as your
Jet Ranger follows ancient waterways, escarpments and allows you perfect
photo opportunities. View everything from above before you explore
what lies below. Time to swim and explore whilst waiting for remainder
of group. A picnic style lunch will be served at the falls. The remainder
of the day can be spent at the Mitchell Falls, viewing art
sites or relaxing at Little Mertens Falls where a natural spa
falls from the escarpment above. Rocky ledges, fern covered walls
and natural spring waters are all features of the area. Late afternoon
commence 15 - 20 minute walk back to base camp.

Overnight: Mitchell Plateau.

10 (BLD)
Depart Mitchell Falls, travel via the Gibb River / Kalumbaru
Aboriginal Community. Kalumbaru has a rich history - in 1932 it
became a mission station after the failure of near by Pago,
played a significant role during World War II, and the land
was being taken for a sheep and cattle stations and the cultivation
of crops. Today, the local Aboriginal people who operate an extensive
cattle cooperation and cater for visitors to the area run the Community.
Surrounded by giant mango trees and coconut palms, close to King
Edward River and Gorge. Kalumbaru is well worth a visit and a
great place to finish your Kimberley Dreams safari.
Dinner tonight will be cooked on the BBQ or over an open fire.
Overnight: Kalumbaru.

Spend a full day around the Kalumbaru Community. Activities
included. Afternoon flight from Kalumbaru to Kununurra.
Overnight: Kununurra.

Early transfer to Kununurra Airport for your onward flight.
